Repeat after me:
Date someone who matches you in emotional development.
Date someone who matches you in emotional intelligence.
Date someone who can support you emotionally.
note to fucking self.
"If more girls wanted to be scientists, there would be more female scientists"
*takes a deep breath* WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY THAT ACTIVELY DISCOURAGES FEMALE INTELLIGENCE BY PAINTING IT AS A NON FEMININE TRAIT AND SETS UP MALES TO BE IN POSITIONS OF ACADEMIC SUPERIORITY DESPITE THERE BEING NO CORRELATION BETWEEN GENDER AND ACADEMIC ABILITY thank you for your time
So I bought this book because it actually produces some really great prompts. If you ever need any ideas for an au or something original holler at me I’ll dial you up one of these.
I want this.

there are white people suffering in the world
but the white people who are suffering are not suffering because they are white
"Columbus didn’t enslave anyone"
"Columbus didn’t enslave anyone"
Trip #1: Columbus kidnapped and imprisoned Arawak people to bring them back with him to Spain. Also kidnapped and imprisoned them so they would take him to their gold.
One of the first thing he wrote about the Arawaks was: “They ought to make good and skilled servants, for they repeat very quickly whatever we say to them.”
Also wrote: “"I could conquer the whole of them with 50 men, and govern them as I pleased."
Traveled to Hispaniola, took native prisoners from the Hispaniola.
Still on his first trip, landed on Samana Peninsula (modern day Dominican Republican) and took 10-25 of the Ciguayos prisoner. Only 7 of the prisoners he took made it back to Spain alive, but hey, they were apparently very entertaining.
On his second trip to the Americas, Columbus brought with him over 1200 men, with the expressed purpose of building COLONIES. So yeah, he was a colonizer, not “just” an explorer. The colonies were built in order to convert natives (who, let’s note, had never asked to be converted), and to take their shit.
Here’s a really nice note about this lovely second trip. Michele da Cuneo, a childhood friend of Columbus, was apparently *given* a captive indigenous woman by Columbus. Cuneo wrote: “When I had taken her to my cabin she was naked—as was their custom. I was filled with a desire to take my pleasure with her and attempted to satisfy my desire. She was unwilling, and so treated me with her nails that I wished I had never begun. But—to cut a long story short—I then took a piece of rope and whipped her soundly, and she let forth such incredible screams that you would not have believed your ears. Eventually we came to such terms, I assure you, that you would have thought that she had been brought up in a school for whores.”
During this time, Columbus also forced the Taino people into a brutal tribute system where they were forced to give spanish colonizers gold and cotton.
Oh, and Columbus was also one of the first users of the encomienda system. What is the encomienda system, you ask?
Under the encomienda system, spaniards were *rewarded* by being given (GIVEN) native people, who were then under their control. The spaniards then used them for labor and exploitation. It was basically slavery.
And Columbus was the first guy to hand them out.
The Taino people of Hispaniola were basically fully enslaved under encomienda. Fifty odd years after Columbus “discovered” them, only a few hundred remained (of an initial population in the hundreds of thousands).
From Howard Zinn’s People’s History of the United States:
“From his base on Haiti, Columbus sent expedition after expedition into the interior. They found no gold fields, but had to fill up the ships returning to Spain with some kind of dividend. In the year 1495, they went on a great slave raid, rounded up fifteen hundred Arawak men, women, and children, put them in pens guarded by Spaniards and dogs, then picked the five hundred best specimens to load onto ships. Of those five hundred, two hundred died en route. The rest arrived alive in Spain and were put up for sale by the archdeacon of the town, who reported that, although the slaves were “naked as the day they were born,” they showed “no more embarrassment than animals.” Columbus later wrote: “Let us in the name of the Holy Trinity go on sending all the slaves that can be sold.”
But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had invested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. American Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death.”
My source for literally all of this is the wikipedia page on Columbus, and the wikipedia page on Columbus day. So this isn’t exactly hidden information.
… and yeah, people understandably have a shitload of problems with Columbus. He wasn’t just a guy who *accidentally* started the colonization of the americas, although even that would be enough to keep him on my permanent shit-list. He was an active participant in the genocide and enslavement of native people in the Caribbean and Latin America.
*sigh* Arizona….stop. Stop saying this lol(via drtessarosetorres)
Tweet 1: I can see a lot of people either avoiding Plan B & ending up pregnant or attempting to take multiple doses & getting sick.
Tweet 2: anyone w a credit card (not everyone, I know) can/should use ella ella-rx.com they’ll ship it overnight $45
SIGNAL BOOST. Ella is another form of emergency contraception/the morning-after pill. It’s more effective than Plan B and can be taken up to FIVE DAYS after your mishap, rather than three days. Please spread this around; with all of the anti-choice legislation flying about and how difficult it can be for some people to get Plan B even OTC (like minors, people living in small towns, etc.), this might be the only way a lot of people can get their hands on the morning-after pill.
I’ve also read that Ella is more effective for plus size people.
This is important. Ella works for everyone. Plan B is not effective for people over 176 pounds. Protect yourself
Boosting the shit outta this.
hey collaterlysisters this smells a little like bullshit to me, could i get a second opinion
It’s 100% accurate: http://www.popsci.com/article/science/fyi-why-doesnt-plan-b-work-heavier-women
